O4O - Older People for Older People is an international project aimed at improving services for older people. The goal of the project is to find and develop new operations models, which will provide older people in the Pielinen Karelia sub-region (Lieksa, Nurmes, Valtimo) with the opportunity to live independently and have flexible services and an active environment.
The project strives to develop cooperation between municipalities. The aim is to promote the well-being of senior citizens by integrating them into the community and through cooperation with the third sector. We will scope the local need for support services and the area's degree of activity. The goal is to create new operations models, which will be tested in our own and our partners' project trials.
The chief partners for this project within Finland are the East Finland social and welfare centre of expertise (ISO), Pielisen Karjalan Ikäihmisten kehittämiskeskus Karpalo, each municipality's services for the elderly, the North Karelia University of Applied Sciences as well as local associations and organisations. Our international network consists of co-operational partners in Scotland, Sweden and Northern Ireland as well as in Greenland (from 1 January 2009)
