Pielinen Karelia is one of Finland's sub-regions. It covers an area of  5.800 km2 . In total, there are nearly 24,000 residents in the area (as at 31.12.2008).

The sub-region is situated in the Province of Eastern Finland, in the North Karelia Region. The sub-region is made up of the municipalities of Lieksa, Nurmes and Valtimo. These four municipalities on the shore of Lake Pielinen offer stunning views of beautiful national landscapes: rugged cliffs, foaming rapids, hills and wild landscapes. The best-known of these sights are the hills at Koli and the Ruunaa Rapids.
